Electrocardiogram
Here’s my version of an awesome motion graphic tutorial by Creative Tap of an electrocardiogram or ECG. Using a base image sourced from Encyclopedia Britannica I recreated cardiac cycles of the heart with the pen tool and trim paths effect in Adobe After Effects. Adobe’s grid effect and sound effects from Pixabay support the ECG or Heartrate Monitor pulse rate which in real life connects to the heart through electrodes on the skin. Although time-remapping doesn’t quite match the maximum of 180 beats per minute, (or the sound effects) this recreation was heaps of fun. You can view Creative Tap’s full tutorial here to follow the steps to simulate your own ECG.

Sunburst background effect
As an exploration of shapes in motion graphics, I created a simple sunburst background animation adapted from an Eran Stern tutorial on LinkedIn. This is created using dashes from a circle and can also make some really psychedelic geometric effects that lead the eye. If you are a LinkedIn subscriber you can view the tutorial ‘Designing a sunburst background animation’ to create your own.

Petals Motion Graphic
This is a simple adaption of an Adobe After Effects tutorial “Draw complex shapes” by Ian Robinson. I've used the pen tool to create the petal shape, merged the petals then excluded the smaller layer inside. Inspired by Robinson’s tutorial, I added 5 shapes and animated the motion using the repeater. I like the simplicity and repetition within the image.
